Your Rustic Wedding Planning Starts with the Invitations

With distressed wood, vintage tablescapes, and organic florals — what’s not to love about rustic weddings? Rustic weddings offer up just the right amount of casual country fun but have a timeless look that never goes out of style.

Rustic weddings are typically all about the venue. So if you’ve found your perfect heritage barn, lakeside dock, or flower-filled meadow, it’s time to think about stationery. How do you channel all that natural beauty into your wedding invitations?

That’s where Minted’s rustic wedding invitations come in. Our independent artists have created hundreds of invitations and stationery designs that are a perfect match for your rustic wedding.

Rustic Wedding Invitation Design Ideas

Though there are nearly endless ways to tailor the rustic aesthetic to your personal style as a couple, rustic wedding invitations all have a few things in common.

Typically, they feature muted, earthy color palettes and free-flowing typography. They often also typically feature special touches like watercolor landscape designs or illustrations bringing an aspect of your venue, or the season, to life.

We offer nearly 100 different rustic wedding invitation designs, but here are a few ideas to get your imagination flowing.

  • Simple rustic: These invitations are the epitome of less is more. Typically, they feature a palette of just two or three colors and typography that leans on classic and elegant script styles.
  • Classic country: If you’re a country couple through and through, look for invitations that incorporate classic country motifs. Keep an eye out for designs that incorporate rustic textures like barn woods, burlap, and grasses.
  • Rustic fall invitations: Take inspiration from your wedding date by picking an invitation that draws on the sights of the season. For rustic fall weddings, think muted reds and rich browns with accents that look handcrafted, like block-print-style leaf illustrations.
  • Dramatic watercolor: Rustic weddings can still incorporate plenty of dramatic details. If that’s your aesthetic, look for an invitation that features watercolor designs in moody dark colors. This style works best for winter weddings, or if your venue is nestled into the mountains, as the watercolor will bring the atmosphere of your big day vividly to life.
  • Heartfelt illustrations: Invitations that feature illustrations of your venue (or the area surrounding it) are a great way to create an experience that feels intimate and personal from the start.
  • Elegant rustic: You don’t have to skip elegant details like gold foil if you’re going for a rustic wedding. Look for invitations that use foil to bring elements of nature to life.
  • Portraits: Showcase your engagement photos with invitations that blend photography and rustic design elements like leaf illustrations and script that looks hand-lettered.
  • Greenery and florals: Show off your love of nature by picking a wedding invitation featuring floral illustrations and watercolor elements. Keep things feeling rustic by picking a design with organic-looking greenery or with a design inspired by your favorite wildflowers.
  • Rustic typography: Look for invitations that feature script that mimics nature. Think flowing letters with small details like leaves and flowers, or go for something that channels classic western or country fonts.
  • Rustic bohemian: Your rustic wedding invitations can be as playful as you are! Look for designs with soft, lighthearted details like illustrations of string lights or your initials carved into a tree trunk.
  • Storybook Details: Bring your happily ever after to life with an invitation that features whimsical illustrations of meadows and valleys, or detailed watercolor designs that serve as a backdrop for the details of your big day.

Rustic Wedding Invitation Suites

We know that choosing a design for your rustic wedding invitation is hard enough, so let us take the guesswork out of it. Use our “shop by suite” option to pick a rustic design (or mix and match a few designs!) that can be applied across your RSVP cards, enclosure cards, direction cards, envelopes, and thank you cards. Note that each item of the suite is purchased separately, so you only ever pay for exactly what you need.

Though rustic weddings typically don’t need all of the trimmings of a formal wedding invitation suite, we’d still recommend the following:

  • The invitation: Of course! The suite will include the rustic wedding invitation you’ve fallen in love with as its anchor. Typically, invitations are 5” x 7” rectangular cards, but Minted offers a range of sizes and shapes for you to choose from if you’d like to go for something a bit more unique.
  • The Envelope: Your envelope is often your guest’s first glimpse into your big day. So don’t let that opportunity go to waste! Our invitation suites come complete with envelopes that feature addresses printed in a designed or scripted font that matches the typography you’ll use throughout your big day.
  • RSVP cards: These cards typically come in a complementary color or feature a scaled-down version of the design elements of your main invitation card. This is also where you’ll allow your guests to select a meal preference, name their plus one, or even request a song.
  • Insert Cards: Will your guests need some special instructions to find your venue? Or do you have a whole weekend of wedding festivities planned? You’ll want to include that information on an insert card if so. This is often where custom elements like maps will come into play, and you can leave those notes in the “Design Requests” box when purchasing Direction or Reception Insert cards.
