United considering Polaris Plus Class?
Just received a survey from United, with the following description :
The survey then went through a number of bundles of extra, with prices ranging from $200-700. Things like a dedicated check-in area, priority access to sit-down dining in the Polaris lounges, guaranteed mattress pads on board, better quality PJ's and several others, improved amenity kits, etc. Towards the end it asked about impressions of the difference between Business Class and First Class.

I potentially like the idea of this, so long as there is a dedicated F/A for these seats as well.
Hoping I get the survey too.

Perhaps they still have the old First Class seats in storage?

Reminds me somewhat of the "thorne" seat LX is charging extra for, unless you are HON or SEN.

None of the options actually covered things that changed the seat itself - beyond the description above. eg, a sample 'Bundle' was :
Access to secluded check-in area, Skip the wait-list for dining at Polaris Lounge, Pre-board with GS (!), First-class style amenity kit, better quality PJ's on 14+ hour flight, mattress pad available on request on 12+ hour flights, additional course during meal (Remember the old first-class soup course?), Box of chocolates at seat.

"These seats would be more spacious" ... how else could that be interpreted?

Dont some European carriers have J+ seats? (Doesnt Jet Blue?)
I love it. They insisted that theres no market for international F, that this is a two-class world, baby, then they added PremPlus, and now theyre toying with JayPlus.

I suppose just a money grab for business people (and some leisure folks) who can expense it (or have money to burn)?
Check-in is already "exclusive". Maybe they let them check-in at the GS area. Since United severely cut the GS ranks this year I'm not surprised this is being considered.
Guaranteed mattress pad...I've never had a problem getting one if I ask. But FAs on United have zero interest in actually putting it in place for you (unlike non-US airlines I've flown). So this implies they will be loading fewer pads and then telling Polaris passengers who spent $10K+ on a ticket, "I'm sorry. You should have purchased the Polaris Plus upgrade if you wanted a mattress pad."
PJs...they're only given out on 14 hour flights right now. Would the 'better' PJs also only be given out on ULH flights?
I also doubt this comes to fruition. United needs to actually spend money fixing the things we're already supposed to get with Polaris like priority baggage handling among so many other things.

If it comes to pass, I wonder if they will they offer the "more spacious seats" to GS on a space-available basis if not purchased?

I'm guessing this is just going to be the first row and perhaps first row of second cabin so won't impact the amount of seat they fit already. And if it brings in an additional $5-$10 k per intercontinental flight why not. They could put an extra 3 inches of the seat wall for added privacy as well.
